Kelly Martin
Kelly is a dancer, educator, choreographer, and researcher. In 2022, she received her Masters of Education from York University where she completed a Major Research Dance Project focusing on how outdoor site-specific movement can develop student connections to their natural environments. The research was nominated by Education and Dance department faculty for York’s Major Research Prize.
Her professional Ballet training at Canada’s National Ballet School prepared her to teach and choreograph dance with a high level of technical and artistic skill. In her undergraduate degree, she was selected to create the first joint performance between the Dance and Music departments at Western University. More recently, in 2021 the Hamilton Arts Council awarded her solo video performance of “A Broken Connection” a spot in their pandemic program titled, Celebrating Resilience in the Arts.
At John F. Ross C.V.I. she supports the choreographic work of students in the Dance Courses and the Royal Rhythm Dance Team. For Kelly, dance is a skill and an art, but most importantly it is a way to communicate. Her goal is to support students in finding their unique voice through dance, while also exploring how specific styles of dance have cultural, social, and present significance in our society.
